We currently live in a world where the quest for perfection is at epidemic levels, parenting perfection, being a key area.
In a Mummy world of uber efficiency, preciously calculated long hours and often a steely determination to not admit defeat, many of us are struggling to maintain the myth that super mum status comes naturally to us. Or maybe you thought it was only you?
The myth, the pretense the pressure to be perfect; Mums, partners, super fit, healthy, creative, contribute both financially and create a life for our children jam packed to the rafters with love, laughter, activities, stimulation and education. Often still being the primary overseer of the traditional female roles of carer, cleaner, cook and teacher. Is just that a myth…?
What does the drive for Mum parenting perfection actually mean?
As Mums we work an average of an 18 hour day every-day.
Many Mums these days are in their 30s and 40s, coping with children, a home and for many a demanding career. (Not having the energy we may have had in our 20s).
In the first year of our children’s lives, (for many of us much longer!) the average mum is woken by her young child twice a night, taking 23 minutes to soothe it back to sleep. This equates to 279 hours over 365 days, according to a poll of 3,000 mothers.
A staggering 82 per cent of women still do the majority of the housework in their home, according to a revealing new study into Britain’s cleaning habits, while just eight per cent of husbands and boyfriends pull their weight when it comes to chores.
83% of new mums claim that they struggle to cope due to tiredness. Socialising becomes difficult, forgetfulness increases and they are more likely to feel unhappy about their post-natal appearance.
A recent study by Mother & Baby magazine found that 56 per cent of mothers surveyed felt in a ‘state of despair’.
SO, here is where you take off your Super Mum outfit, put down your to-do list for half an hour, forget the washing, emails, on-line grocery shopping and your organizing your kids play dates and in total confidentiality start finding out who you are as a Mum and discovering that she is just what you need to be!
